Dwarf Mugo Pine,
The genus name, Pinus, is the Latin name for pines. The epithet, Mugo, is derived from Italian and means "small mountain pine." This species of Pine features a low and compact growth habit, and often has multiple trunks. In it native habitat it can grow up to 5 feet in height, it is a horizontal spreader and is commonly used to prevent erosion and avalanches. In its native habitat the Dwarf Mugo Pine can be found in high-elevation habitats throughout southern and central Europe.

This plant grows best in full sun (6-10hours of direct sun) and moist, well-draining soils. These species of pines rot easily in poor draining soil.
