Bahama Berry | Nashia Inaguensis

The Bahama Berry, scientifically known as Nashia Inaguensis, is a captivating tree native to the tropical regions of the Bahamas and parts of the Caribbean. Thriving in sandy soils and coastal environments, this unique species flourishes in coastal thickets.

Reaching a maximum height of 15 feet and spreading out to about 10 feet in width, its natural growth habit features a dense canopy of small, glossy green leaves that create a lush appearance, in spring the tree profusely flowers producing clusters of delicate white to pale pink flowers, followed by edible purple berries. Its ability to intricately branch, grow dense leaves and handle severe pruning makes it ideal for any bonsai enthusiast!

 

Leaves: The leaves of the Bahama Berry are small glossy, oval-shaped with a rich green color. Each leaf measures around 0.5”-2” making it perfect for bonsai. The foliage is dense and readily back buds. One of the best parts of the tree is that slightly bruising the leaves will produce a very pleasant aroma, this aroma has been described as mixture of vanilla, honey and orange.

 Flowers: In the beginning of Spring & Summer, small, beautiful clusters of white-pale pink flowers grow on all parts of the tree. It matures in some purple berries in late summer/fall. The leaves, bark and berries have all commonly been used to make tea with.

Sun Requirement: Full Sun-Partial Shade

Watering Requirements: Water the soil thoroughly to help saturate the entire substrate. Water frequently and keep the soil slightly moist, not soaking, take care to not let the root ball dry out completely

Growth Rate: 6-18”/year

Ideal PH 6.0-7.5
