Natal Plum | Carissa Macrocarpa

The Natal Plum Bonsai is an elegant, compact tree that is prized for its glossy, evergreen foliage and vibrant, fragrant flowers. With its striking appearance and unique, glossy leaves, it makes a perfect addition to any bonsai collection. The Natal Plum bonsai can be trained into various styles, adding to its appeal for bonsai enthusiasts.

Native to South Africa the Natal Plum is a highly prized tree due to their edible fruit and striking flowers. In its natural habitat the Natal Plum can  grow up to 10-15 feet tall when left unpruned.

Leaves: The leaves are glossy, dark green, and thick, with a leathery texture. They are oval-shaped with a slightly pointed tip and arranged in pairs along the branches. The deep green color of the leaves contrasts beautifully with the bright blooms and gives the tree an attractive, sculptural appearance.

Flowers: Natal Plum produces fragrant, white, star-shaped flowers with a slight pinkish tint. These flowers are typically about 1 inch in diameter and bloom in clusters during the warmer months, adding a delicate and sweet aroma to its surroundings.

Sun Requirement: Full sun to partial shade.

Watering Requirements: Water regularly, but allow the soil to dry out slightly between waterings. The Natal Plum prefers well-draining soil and should not be waterlogged, as it may lead to root rot.

Growth Rate: 6"-12"/year

Ideal PH: 6.0 to 7.0.
