Ligustrum Sinese | Chinese Privet

Measures 47cm Tall

The Chinese Privet, a semi-evergreen shrub, can grow up to 20 feet tall and belongs to the Olive family. It is highly adaptable to different soil types and can thrive in various regions around the world. While commonly used for hedges, this plant also serves as an excellent option for bonsai.

Originally from China, Taiwan, and Vietnam, the Chinese Privet has spread as an invasive species in many parts of the United States.

Leaves: The leaves are vibrant green and have an oval shape. They grow opposite to each other and reach a length of 2-3 inches. Through repeated defoliation, these leaves can be reduced to under 1 inch in length.

Flowers: During the Spring and Summer seasons, numerous clusters of white flowers measuring 2-5mm in length will appear. It is important to note that these flowers only grow on new growth, so be mindful when pruning. Additionally, the berries produced by this plant are known to be toxic.

Sun Requirement: Full sun

Watering Requirements: Ensure complete saturation of the substrate by thoroughly watering the soil. Keep the soil slightly moist through frequent watering, making sure not to let the root ball dry out completely.

Growth Rate: 8”-24"/year

Ideal PH 5.0-8.5
