Classic Juniper
Juniper | Juniperus Procumbens ‘Nana’
Originating from Japan, the Classic Juniper is a popular evergreen in North America. When one thinks of a traditional bonsai, a Juniper always comes to mind. With its majestic nature and timeless beauty, Juniper serves as a great tree for any Bonsai enthusiast.
This cultivar of Juniper is a popular dwarf, spreading shrub, known as scale junipers due to the appearance of its tiny, scale-like new growth which expands upon maturity. It has a low-growing, ground-hugging habit and features evergreen needle-like foliage in a rich green color. With a height of 15-30cm and a spread of 150-200cm, it is a great choice for windswept bonsais. This plant thrives in well-drained soils and can even tolerate drought, making it a resilient option for beginners.
Needles: This juniper typically has small, compact needles measuring approximately 0.5cm-1cm in length. Its back budding ability makes pruning effortless. Due to its durability when trimmed or slightly damaged, it is a suitable choice for novice enthusiasts.
