Exquisite Black Olive
The black olive tree (Bucida spinosa) does not produce edible fruit, but derives its name from the black seed capsules that it develops in late summer. It is an evergreen native to the Florida Keys. The black olive tree has thick, bluish-green foliage and its branches are lined sporadically with 1 1/2-inch long spines. This tree prefers full to partial sun and is tolerant of most soil conditions, though it will not thrive if its roots remain too moist.
Keep in the lit area, but out of prolonged direct sunlight. Keep soil evenly moist. To check moisture, feel if the top of the soil is dry to the touch. If so, it is time to water. Water gently and thoroughly from above, allowing the pot to drain over a sink or tray. Fertilize monthly between May - Nov with the Bonsai (recommended) or the general fertilizer. Recommended temperature is 65 degrees F and up. Keep above a humidity tray to ensure proper moisture levels in the winter especially.
